New Years Evolution

After two wonderful weeks off from work and placing all responsibilities on the back-burner, it is back to reality for this teacher tomorrow. I am so excited to spend this year continuing to work on my blog, I hope you all are feeling as blessed about the year 2015 as I am!

As I reminisced on New Years and all the heartache and oppurtunities that 2014 brought with it, I could’t help but get nostalgic. Isn’t that the point of New Years? Letting go of the year before and embracing what we, as individuals, will endure and accept in the next 365 days.

For my first blog of 2015 I wanted to do a New Years Resolution list. We see them all the time, “New Year-New You”, “Get Your Best Body Ever”, “Things To Let Go Of In 2015”, or as Seinfeld would put it “Yadayadayada”.

Instead of preaching about what I have done wrong in the last year, or how I just didn’t lose those 10 pounds when I swore I would, even realizing that I may not be exactly where I thought I would be a year ago. Each of us takes experiences in our lives to be empowered as we continue to grow into the person we were meant to be. It may not be a nice list to place on my refrigerator door, or a number that I aspire to see on the scale. Perhaps, it is letting go of people who bring nothing to your life anymore. Maybe it is saying yes to experiences that scare you and knowing when it is ok to say no and spend a night watching crappy TV shows on the couch. It’s knowing when to pack your bags and go somewhere you’ve never been before.

My challenge for this year is to not settle, to keep searching, to become the best version of myself that I can be. And to not get discouraged when I let myself down. It is ok to make mistakes, as long as they are registered and comprehended, not pushed aside for another day to ponder on. Instead of vowing to resolve things I want to “fix” in my life, this year I hope I can continue to simply evolve…
