Shake It Off

The past few weeks the word “mistake” has seemed to fill my vocabulary. Mistake can be defined as being able to understand, interpret, or evaluate wrongly. Whether it be adding too much laundry detergent to the washing machine or saying the wrong thing at the wrong time, it all spins together in my mind as one big mistake. I recently read an article concerning the study of people and how we respond to those around us. The article explored that as we study other people, we begin to mimic their lives, their movements, even their clothes. We understand others enough to base our knowledge and power on their actions. The real question comes to be: When do we begin to understand ourselves? Who do we become when it is only ourselves? Part of the learning process towards becoming who we are is recognizing the mistakes we make and owning them, letting them mold us as we embrace the negatives with the positives. Perhaps all the mistakes lead to the transition and change we need to stop mirroring the lives of others around us and begin to stumble into the direction of an unpaved life we would have never thought possible. When it comes to mistakes sometimes it’s best to just simply…shake it off.
